Texas deputy scams senior citizen then quits his job

After being accused of scamming a 72-year-old woman out of more than $10,000, a Bexar County Sheriff's deputy quit his job.

BCSO Deputy Erik Reyes turned in his resignation March 9, 2022 and was officially discharged from the department following a January complaint filed against the deputy stating he maxed out the victim's credit cards, purchasing cruise vacations and making other unauthorized transactions. In a separate incident, Reyes talked the senior into adding his name to one of her credit card accounts.

Among other claims, Reyes is also accused of trying to get to the woman to put her estate in his name. He also obtained security access codes to her home, garage, and is also suspected of stealing jewelry belonging to the woman.

Aside from Internal Affairs and Public Integrity Unit looking into the matter, Texas Adult Protective Services is also conducting their own investigation as the misconduct can be considered elder abuse.
