According to mainstream news sources, Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Levitt, was arrested on Thursday, March 17, 2002 for perjury, making unsworn false statements, and official oppression.

On April 28, 2021, Levitt was involved in a traffic stop that led to an arrest, but according to an audit conducted by the department's Internal Affairs Bureau, the search that prompted the arrest was illegal.

According to Assistant District Attorney Vincent Corrigan, Levitt was one of a few officers who stopped a minivan for ignoring a stop sign. After it was pulled over, the minivan was searched and a gun was found. Since the driver did not have a license to carry the gun, the driver was arrested. Levitt claimed in paperwork he filed that the gun was in plain view. A review of body-worn camera footage revealed Levitt's claim to be a lie. The gun was not in plain view, therefore, the search of the vehicle was rendered illegal.

While Levitt is on suspension, he is still a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5. President of that chapter, John McNesby, said the police union would "vigorously defend" all charges against the officer.
